Acrylic Crochet Hooks – A Complete Guide To Your Best Options

In crochet, acrylic means yarn, and an acrylic crochet hook! Acrylic is a transparent, light, strong alternative to glass. It’s cheaper and doesn’t shatter.

Crochet hooks made of this material are smooth, lightweight, and in fun and vibrant colors. Read my review of the best below.

  1. I have a question for you. I purchased hooks I believe are acrylic and they stick and squeak when I am using 100% acrylic yarn. Is this normal.

    Reply
    • Hi Patti. Yes the sticking and squeaking can certainly happen with some acrylic hooks and 100% acrylic yarn. This can happen because your tension is tight. Try loosening it a little. You could also try what some other crocheters recommend and that is to rub a little beeswax or soap on the hook. Some people even run their hook through their hair to get some of the natural oil onto the hook to stop the squeaking. You may find the squeaking continues and if so, you may need to choose a wooden or aluminum hook for the yarn you are using. Let me know how you get on. Cheers Jodie
