Their Story

The Woobles Founders
The Co-Founders of Woobles – Justine and her husband, Adrian.

Justine didn’t know what she was getting into when she crocheted her first plushie for a friend.

It took her weeks to figure it out after trying video tutorials, blogs, and asking fellow crocheters!

It was frustration that caused her and Adrian to create The Woobles – so you can learn to crochet easily.

The Woobles Process

The Woobles isn’t only about crochet. It’s about learning something new every day and building confidence.

Single Kits

Pierre the Penguin – My Review

Pierre Kit

I reviewed their Pierre the Penguin amigurumi! Lots of cute penguin pics are coming your way! It was a delight to crochet Pierre.

My Pierre has been gifted to a good friend of my family who adores him. He’s even been taken shopping at a market!

Unboxing!

The kit came in a small box.

Woobles Pierre Box

It was like Christmas early! Thanks, The Woobles!

Pierre Packet

I found the pieces inside a nicely-packaged plastic zip-lock bag. So you can see, here’s what the back of the packet looks like.

Woobles Pierre Back Packet

I received everything I needed to make Pierre. Including

  • Hook
  • Yarn
  • Plastic eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stuffing
  • A link to online instructions

No need to buy things separately.

Pierre Equipment

What I Liked And Disliked In The Kit

Yarn

  • Soft, but not super-soft
  • Shoelace style
  • Easier to work with, since I didn’t split the yarn.
  • Pierre was also one of my favorite shades of blue!

Hook

  • The yarn worked well with the 4mm hook
  • Sometimes, I had to fight to get my hook through the stitches

Tapestry Needle

  • It was plastic, so it was rather flimsy
  • Use a metal one instead if you have one
Woobles Equipment Collage

Safety Eyes

  • I enjoyed using the safety eyes. It made the little penguin look so cute
  • Putting the eyes in was easy, 100% Yarn Split Free
  • They were also held firmly

Stuffing

  • The filling was little white hairy stuff. Messy, though!

Instructions: What I Did And Didn’t Like

Instructions were clear and easy to read. Videos were well recorded, with good camera focus. I liked how they provided left- and right-handed instructions!

The written pattern was hard to follow. Watching the videos made more sense.

The pattern was easier to understand, and the videos were helpful and informative. The Woobles included funny GIFs occasionally.

The Body

Making Pierre's Body

The instructions kept me entertained and motivated. I followed the link, put in the password, and read the directions. It was easier to watch videos than to use the written-out pattern.

Don’t skip the videos. They’re valuable!

The kit came with a pre-started piece, so I didn’t make the magic loop. Although the body was the biggest part, I worked it up quickly. Amigurumi are small, cute, and quick to make!

The Stomach

Making Pierre's Stomach

I crocheted the stomach in the round and sewed it onto the body. I found the video tutorials helpful in understanding everything.

The Beak

Only Pierre's Wings Left To Make

My crochet got fiddly here! Its beak was so tiny, with only a few rounds. The video showed a nice technique for sewing the beak to the body.

The Wings

Other than the beak, the wings were probably the hardest part of Pierre. Not too hard for a beginner, it could be challenging for some people (including me!)

However, it was satisfying to see them all done and sewn on!

Penguins can’t fly, which is good. Those tiny wings would never get Pierre anywhere. Try eating less fish, Pierre!

Pierre Is Complete!

What I Loved

  • Everything I needed came with the kit
  • Pre started piece (saves you doing the magic ring! This is a difficult thing to master and it was nice not having to do it!)
  • Excellent instructions
  • Creating an Adorable penguin!

What I Didn’t Love

There wasn’t much I disliked about this kit. It was great! Only the plastic bothered me. I’d love it if they made the packet recyclable or compostable!

Should You Buy This Kit?

Pierre Is Finished!

I think you’ll love this kit if you like penguins or amigurumi! A new project is always fun, especially if you’re trying something you haven’t done before!

My penguin turned out great. The tutorials were easy to follow, and I had fun crocheting all the pieces. I highly recommend it!
